Reading FC Sign Danny Guthrie

Well it’s been a while, but finally there’s been a bit of solid footballing news coming out of the Madejski Stadium, with two signings and the launch of the strips for 2012/13. The first of those signings to be confirmed was that of Danny Guthrie, who joins from Newcastle on a ‘Bosman’ free transfer on a three-year deal. 

Guthrie has been through some of the biggest clubs in the country, including Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle, winning praise wherever he’s been. However, somewhat inconsistant form and a series of unfortunate injuries have meant Guthrie has never quite cracked the top-level of the English game and we’ll look at what Reading fans can expect from the 25-year-old midfielder.

Something sits rather unhealthily when Sky Sports News teased with the prospect that Reading values the half-season-wonder striker Shane Long at £10 million buckaroos. The leading men at Reading will fall over in sheer excitement and probably in a mental breakdown over astonishment caused if the Royals get an astounding eight-figure sum for a striker who was picked up for £30,000. The transfer market is frankly becoming rather ridiculous.

Loan Report – April 11th, 2011

While it was a super week for the Royals first team, you could say that those out on loan fared rather poorly compared to their teammates back at Reading, with just goalkeeper Ben Hamer making an appearance on a winning side.

Hamer, currently at Exeter, made a number of good saves including a great save with his legs to deny Bristol Rovers’ Jo Kuffour a late equaliser. Exeter went onto win 2-0, and are currently 9th in League One. It was Hamer’s 6th clean sheet of the season at Exeter.

Jay Tabb, Reading’s unsung hero?

Jay Tabb has signed a new contract with Reading, which will keep him at the Madejski Stadium until at least 2012, with the option of adding a further year.
