Royal Links – Dave Kitson Interview

April 9, 2012 1 comment

Fascinating 15 minute interview with former Reading striker Dave Kitson on where it all went wrong. Talks candidly about the players heads being turned after the first Premier League season and the mistakes he made after leaving the club.

Thanks to @twgreaney on twitter for flagging it up.

Royal Links – Some Tilehurst End Cameos

April 4, 2012 Leave a comment

Reading FC

It’s fair to say that Reading have made the wider footballing world sit up and take notice in recent weeks and we’ve been lucky enough here on The Tilehurst End to be invited to do a couple of bits and pieces across the internet for other sites and podcasts over the past few days.

Firstly I was invited onto the excellent Football League Podcast We Are Going Up to discuss the West Ham game, which you can listen to here.

We were also asked to share our thoughts on Reading’s season so far on the Best of the Bets website, which you can read here.

Royal Links – Texaco Fan Central, Showing The Lighter Side Of The Game

December 5, 2011 1 comment

After a tough weekend the temptation is to be in a bit of a funk about football but I thought now would be a good time to give this a quick bit of promotion to give a few laughs.

Championship sponsors Texaco are  running a campaign called ‘Fan Central’, hosted by John Fendley (Fenners) which includes interviews with Championship players and managers. The interviews tend to be about the lighter side of football as you’ll see Fenners asks about away trip insights, music tastes, car choice as well as posing questions from fans.

They’ve already done a couple of pieces with Noel Hunt and Jem Karacan and those are well worth a watch as Hunty reveals who’s the best at poker and which defender is ‘banterless’ on the bus.

The Reading interviews include Jem Karacan teaching Fenners how to do the ‘Dougie’ dance and Noel Hunt talking about stealing pillows form hotels. The videos can be viewed here or at

The videos are a good chance to see players answering some slightly more left field questions than usual and they’ll be running competitions and posting fresh contact throughout the remainder of the season so stay tuned to the Facebook page for more information.

Royal Links – Bye Gary – A Tribute To Gary Speed By Simon Richards

Just over a week ago football lost one of it’s good guys in Gary Speed.  The tributes all week have been moving from up and down the country but I wanted to draw attention to this tribute by Cardiff City fan Simon Richards which brings home how it’s affected people on a personal level. Simon regularly writes for us on our View From The Town End segment when we play Cardiff and you can follow him on twitter @SJRichards79

Thanks to Zammo over at HNA? for flagging this one up, a great little article from former Reading Evening Post Reading reporter Clive Baskerville on Reading’s record breaking efforts during the 1985/86 season that saw promotion back to the second tier.

It features on the Total Football website which is now being edited by a Royals fan Mark Roach and it’s well worth a read here

Royal Links – Obscure League One Imports

June 9, 2011 Leave a comment

While it’s been a good 10 years since we graced the third tier (and hopefully the last..) I found this little piece on the worst League One(Division 2, Old Division 3)  imports over the years.

The piece includes our very own Tommy Burns wonder signings Peter Van Der Kwaak and Mass Sarr,

Newsbites – 24th May 2011

Just 5 days to go until Wembley and the news has gone a bit quiet today, the calm before the storm I suspect! anyway here are today’s main Reading FC stories.
