Fixtures, Fixtures & More Fixtures – 2012/13 Edition

Hard to beleive how different the outlook was the last time I wrote this fixtures piece. Back then we were pondering trips to The AMEX, London Road and The Den, now it’s Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and White Hart Lane.

By now we’ve all had time to digest the basics of the fixtures for the new season which will see us open at home to Stoke and finish with a trip to Upton Park to face West Ham. The official club site has done a great little key points article outlining some of the essential dates and what to look out for but I thought we’d take a look at some of the other impacts of the fixture list, including how far we’ll have to travel and how much away match tickets are likely to cost.

7 Reasons NOT To Look Forward To Reading FC Being Back In The Premier League

April 18, 2012 16 comments

Well, in the interests of balance there always needs be someone who’s the party-pooper that points out that things aren’t quite as golden as everyone’s making out – and as it seems that’s the role I’m finding myself in more and more, here we go. After this afternoon’s seven reasons to look forward to Reading FC being back in the Premier League, here are seven reasons NOT to look forward to this.

But first, I must stress (just in case anyone takes this the wrong way!) that I’m as pleased as everyone else about the promotion yesterday – and hopefully also the Championship next week. What supporter doesn’t want to see their team play at the highest level? But as every silver lining has a cloud, maybe a small reality check is called for. Although, to be honest, most of these points only affect match-going supporters. If you support Reading via TV or radio then it’s more or less all win for you.

Oh boy, this one is going to be fun. Ahead of tomorrow’s game we spoke to Saints fan Chris Rann from Southampton blog George Weah’s Cousin who gives us his thoughts on their season and what to expect on Friday night.

Reading will be aiming to make it eight wins in a row when they host Leicester City on Saturday. The Royals won the reverse fixture 2-0 earlier this year but much has changed at the King Power Stadium, most notably the manager with Sven Goran Eriksson replaced by Nigel Pearson.

Ahead of tomorrow’s game Dean Goodsell from Foxes Talk was kind enough to give us his thoughts about Saturday’s game.

Reading 1-0 Portsmouth – Hunting Down Top Spot

Seven wins from seven and Brian McDermott’s promotion party bus continues to get fuelled up and ready to hit the streets. This game was anything but a classic as both sides combined for 2 shots on target in 90 minutes but nobody will remember the quality of these games if we’re looking forward to Premier League football next season.

Six wins on the spin and Portsmouth are the next team to come to the Madejski Stadium. This game always has a good atmosphere but you could forgive Pompy’s travelling fans for being a bit subdued tonight, given that their club might not exist this time next week, or next month.

Ahead of tonight’s game, Pompy fan Bill Gillon from Pompy Online shared his thoughts on Pompy’s plight and what he expects from the game this evening.
