Many people are getting excited about the new Premier League TV deal, announced yesterday, and what it means to clubs like Reading. Local media have been sensationalising this as much as possible, using words like “TV windfall” – so let’s have a brief look at what this actually does mean for a club like Reading. Read more…

Reading FC Bookie Watch – March 8, 2012

March 8, 2012 2 comments

Reading are the in form team in the Championship right now, riding high with 7 wins from 7 at a time where our two biggest rivals for automatic promotion both slipped up at home. As the gap has got shorter and shorter so have our odds with the bookies.   In this column at the start of December we were 14/1 to get promoted today it’s just 6/5 a reflection of just how far we’ve come in the past three months.

So lets look a little closer at those odds and see what the bookmakers think of our prospects.

The last time I wrote a bookie watch Reading had been dumped out of the cup by Stevenage and routed by Cardiff City, with fans begininng to wonder if the play-off push was running out of steam. Today things seem very different, with a cartel of new signings and the club boosted by TSI investment, all eyes are on the play-offs and even automatic promotion.

I hate having to write this. I wish I could be like the vast majority of other Reading fans and rejoice in the signature of Jimmy Kebe on his contract extension, and sit back and speculate on all the players Reading are going to buy.

But sadly I can’t. I don’t know if I’m naturally suspicious, or if I’ve spent too much time with supporters of other clubs across the country, listening to the tales of their ownership changes, good and bad, but one thing strikes me. Read more…

The Tilehurst End January Round Table

January 21, 2012 Leave a comment

Earlier this week a few of the writers from the Tilehurst End gathered to talk about the season so far and what might be next. I’d just preface this by saying we met up Thursday so this happened before the news about the potential new investment, which could change quite a few things!

Regardless below the jump you’ll find a few thoughts on what’s gone before and what’s to come.

Since the last bookie watch on December 7th Reading have enjoyed a great run of form, curtailed only by a defeat at Cardiff and a disappointing cup exit to Stevenage. There’s no point in doing the cup odds now but how have our promotion chances changed in the eyes of the bookies. Click below the jump to find out.
